Syrian insurgents killed in internal dispute over booty
Dozens of foreign-sponsored Syrian insurgents have been killed after a bitter dispute over the distribution of property stolen during attacks in the flashpoint city of Aleppo.
At least 25 insurgents were killed in the Izaz neighborhood of the city, located about 114 kilometers (70 miles) south of Damascus, on Tuesday after they turned on each other and exchanged heavy gunfire. Dozens of gunmen were also injured in the clashes, the SANA news agency reported.
Elsewhere, a number of armed men were killed during intense clashes with Syrian troops in the Bab Houd neighborhood of the city of Homs, located about 160 kilometers (100 miles) north of Damascus.
In addition, on Tuesday Syrian soldiers launched an offensive against insurgents in the al-Mariyeh district of the city of Deir al-Zour, situated about 420 kilometers (262 miles) northeast of Damascus, killing scores of them.
The Syrian Army also seized a large amount of weapons, and destroyed a pickup truck equipped with a Dushka machine gun in the process.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011.
The Syrian government says that the chaos is being orchestrated from outside the country, and there are reports that a very large number of the insurgents are foreign nationals.
