Gunmen abduct girl from east Lebanon school playground
Gunmen Wednesday entered a public school in east Lebanon and kidnapped a female student, while another student abducted in a separate incident was released shortly afterwards, security sources told The Daily Star.

They said four gunmen, three of them masked, broke into al-Ain public school near the Bekaa Valley village of Nabi Othman and kidnapped 15-year-old Lilian Khaled Houri, the sources said.

The gunman who was not wearing a mask was identified as Mahdi Nazha from Nabi Othman, some 45 kilometers north of Baalbek, the sources said. They said Nazha, better known by his nom de guerre Mahdi Allah, was known to police.

Security forces launched a hunt for the kidnappers.

A school teacher at Ras al-Ain school said Lilian was kidnapped from the playground.

Separately, four gunmen in a dark four-wheel drive vehicle snatched Bernard Salameh, 19, as he headed to school in Baalbek, only to release him less than half an hour later.

The sources said Salameh overheard his captors saying he was not their target.
